Great news for Minaflores!
By Anna Garwood - Latin America Program Manager, October 16, 2009 09:51 PM
The hotel's sponsorship will be geared mostly towards the equipment costs of the project, so the donations raised through GlobalGiving will support the community organizing aspect of the project. Project organizers will train the community members in running the energy system and help them organize to administer it. A small tariff for energy service will allow the community to maintain the service long into the future.
Thanks to everyone who has donated to this project. Your donations helped get this project off the ground and will now help it be sustainable.

The community of Minaflores has gathered 2 times in the last 3 months to discuss the search for support for their micro-hydro project. The community announced to the project promoters that they are dedicated to continue seeking support in view of the fact that there are no other options in the near term to get electricity.

Paez / Nasa
By Anna Garwood - Green Empowerment Latin America Program Manager, December 11, 2008 02:20 PM
We are still seeking help for this important project, which will be lead by a local Colombian NGO with extensive experience in small-scale renewable energy, APROTEC. The project will benefit a Paez/Nasa community which is threatened by the ongoing war in Colombia. To learn more about the Paez/Nasa, see this link:
