More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
Djolu Technical College, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is the only institute of higher education within 30,000 square miles. Located in a nationally and globally important region of rainforest reserves, the college offers 70 bright, motivated young people in this impoverished region their sole chance of obtaining a college degree. The library contains only 45 volumes, and students have to make a two-week hike to the nearest city, Kisangani, to type and print out their theses.
Activities
Students and professors will share ten laptops and a printer, in a computer lab that doubles as an internet café for area residents. An online library subscription service will also provide access to millions of books and other technical resources.
