Mission

The Nepalese Youth Opportunity Foundation (NYOF) is devoted to bringing hope to the most destitute children in the beautiful but impoverished Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal. With a personal touch, we provide these children with what should be every child’s birthright – education, housing, medical care, and loving support. Empowered to reach their potential, these children blossom, enriching the world we all share.

Programs

Indentured Daughters – Saves girls from being sold into bonded servitude; educates families; provides alternative source of income. Nutritional Rehabilitation Homes - Saves children that are severely malnourished. Educates their mothers on proper nutrition and hygiene. J & K Orphanages – Provides a home and education for orphans that have been abandoned by their parents, many are handicapped. Education – Currently we provide scholarships for over 2000 children.

Personnel Overview

Man Bahadur Chhetri - Director of Indentured Daughters Program
Mr. Chhetri has worked for international organizations, including the UN, as a trainer, program developer, field coordinator and researcher in the area of children’s issues and health. He oversees our Indentured Daughters Program working closing with our partner Friends of Needy Children. He helps persuade girls and their families that they should not be “sold” but can stay in school.

Olga Murray - Founder and Board President
Born in 1925, Columbia Univ. graduate with a law degree from George Washington Univ. She was a research attorney for the California Supreme Court. She founded the Nepalese Youth Opportunity Foundation in 1990 to provide education and care for the impoverished Nepalese children. She spends half the year in Nepal overseeing NYOF programs, and the other half in Sausalito raising funds for NYOF.
