Project Needs and Beneficiaries

For an eight-week period in December to January the temperature can go down to near freezing point. For the poor, particularly children without blankets and any warm clothing this dangerous damp cold claims lives every year. The appeal was started following the death of a young girl in the night from the cold in her simple village dwelling and the appeal was started in the Hope this would never happen again in the villages and communities in which we work.

Activities

Working closely with our teachers and community health workers we are able to identify families and children in need and effectively distribute blankets and clothing directly to those most in need of them.

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

This appeal is a response to an annual need and is humanitarian in nature. However over the past 5 years we have distributed over 5,000 blankets and 1000 warm sweaters to desperately poor children, saving great distress and even lives.

Project Message

When we visit the villages in the winter months we often see children shivering and crying from the cold. With this appeal we know we can help them immediately

Latest Update from the Field

Preparing for next winter

By Nick Hansen - Project Director, June 29, 2009 12:52 PM

Again the Trust would like to thank you for all of your kindness in supporting this important appeal. We are preparing for next winter by purchasing blankets and sweaters at cheaper prices. There is no doubt that this appeal saves lives every year. For example the trust distributed over 300 small warm blankets and little woollen hats to babies of desperately poor
families, with a bigger one for the mother.
