Mission

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is the humanitarian agency of the Seventh-day Adventist church. ADRA seeks to identify and address social distortions and deprivation in developing countries. The agency’s work is a representative expression of Seventh-day Adventists’ desire to improve the quality of life of those in need.

Programs

The overall objective of this program is to motivate disadvantaged but academically high performing primary school girls to continue in their education.

Personnel Overview

Aberra Makonnen - Office chief, Basic Education Office, USAID
Mr. Makonnen has served in Ethiopian Ministry of Education over thirty years, as a teacher, planner, and researcher and as Secretary General for the Ethiopian UNESCO before joining USAID/Ethiopia. He started working for USAID/Ethiopia eleven years ago. Currently he is Office Chief for Basic Education Services.

Befekadu Gebretsadik - Project management Specialist
Prior to joining USAID/Ethiopia as project management specialist in teacher education and curriculum development in November 2002, Mr. Gebretsadik worked as education advisor to CARE/Ethiopia for one and half years. Prior to joining CARE he worked for the Ethiopian Ministry of Education for more than twenty years in the area of teacher development.
