More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Unemployed men standing on the side of the road in South Africa's urban centres are low skilled, and often do not have work references. Many cannot take advantage of training that is offered as they lack funds for transport to and from the training, and they also need to seek work daily to feed their families. Richard Ryan, national training co-ordinator believes that "Our training provides these men the opportunity of learning a skill that will allow them to enter the open labour market."

Activities

Training is provided to unemployed men in skills such as bricklaying, construction, carpentry, plastering, tiling, painting, decorating and plumbing. Training is focused on skills needed by the labour market to ensure success in finding work.

Project Message

"I was suffering and the gardening training helped me a lot. I am the head of the family in my home - the only man with seven sisters! Now I can support them and my own family as well."
- Vuyisile Dyolotana, Project beneficiary
