Project Needs and Beneficiaries

All over eastern Burma (Myanmar), indigenous people are subject to attacks, forced labor, land mines, and displacement by the army of Burma’s military dictatorship. The Free Burma Rangers relief teams carry medical equipment into the jungle of Burma, and are trained to treat patients and document human rights abuses. They are equipped with food, first aid supplies, cameras, flashlights, radios, and toys for children. With 43 relief teams making many rounds, FBR reaches up to 172,000 people.

Activities

Green Empowerment and local partners will provide all solar power equipment , plus installation, operation, and maintenance training to staff of the Free Burma Rangers training center, and will assist in the installation of the system on site.

Potential Long Term Impact

Relief teams trained by Free Burma Rangers will provide medical relief and supplies to 172,000 internally displaced Burmese people in remote areas of the jungle. Medical assistance to the people reached is not supported by any government agency.

Free Burma Ranger installation

The solar power equipment for powering the FBR training center was installed at the end of October 2008 in the secluded location.

BGET and partner SEPI provided the design and installation supervision, and trained the FBR technicians on how to install and operate the systems.
