Mission

Soul of Africa is a charitable initiative and a self-sustainable project created to facilitate employment and funding aimed at helping orphans affected by AIDS through the sale of hand-stitched shoes. Unemployed and unskilled women in South Africa are trained to hand-stitch shoes, giving them the self-empowering abililty to become economically autonomous.The SOA Trust receives a percentage of sales from the shoes which it uses to developprojects focused around orphans affected by AIDS.

Programs

Teaching previously unemployed women how to hand-stitch shoes whilst paying them a fair wage. The shoes that are produced by the women are of a high standard and are sold worldwide under the Soul of Africa brand.

Mike and Sarah Gedye - Co Founder of the Charity and Member of the Board
Twenty five years ago, Mike started the company ‘Michelle’ footwear from his garage, with only six employees and R1200 to fund his dream. Today, along with his wife Sarah, Mike successfully commands an annual turnover of R75million and employs 455 people and run a successful footwear brand called Froggie which has a chain of retail shops in South Africa.
