More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Land is a precious commodity throughout the world. Disenfranchised rural families lack access to the kind of credit needed to buy their own land. Trapped in a cycle of basic survival, they pay exorbitant rents for poor quality land or work for desperately low wages as migrant laborers. Agros restores hope and opportunity for such families in Honduras by purchasing farmland, providing agricultural training, and much more. Families pay back the cost of the land, proudly earning right to its title.

Activities

Your help enables future Agros families to: raise and sell crops and animals; learn skills to increase incomes; gain access to potable water; build and grow their own businesses; and experience God’s blessing in their lives and relationships.

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

The Agros model works to ensure economic, environmental, organizational, and social sustainability. Sustainability is not only key for the villagers themselves but for the long-term and integrated approach that addresses these issues.

Project Message

The communities are very proud of their harvests and their new income. Hope is being restored to families who have not owned land for generations.
- Norma Martínez, Director, Agros Honduras

Latest Update from the Field

Nuevo Amanecer Summer '09

By Shannon Gallagher - Annual Campaign Manager, October 20, 2009 09:56 PM

Friends of Agros,

Thank you so much for your continued support of Agros villages like Nuevo Amanecer!

The village and community at large are making gains in food security this quarter. The families have planted 33.5 acres of corn and 0.3 acres of beans using new, environmentally-friendly techniques. Individual vegetable gardens are also being implemented throughout the community to add to family nutrition.

Read more about the community’s development in the attached Summer update for the Agros village of Nuevo Amanecer. Every quarter, the Agros US office receives a progress report on each village on topics such as: Community Organization, Land Ownership, Housing and Infrastructure, Community Education and Training, and Sustainable Economic Growth.

Enjoy!
