More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
The civil war destroyed most of the musical instruments and left artists destitute. With musical instruments and a sound system, Burundi’s young artists will have an opportunity to come together, develop their creative talents and have their voice for peace and reconciliation heard by Burundians. In collaboration with Search for Common Ground, these concerts allow for Burundians from different communities to find a safe space to meet and overcome stereotypes, paving the way for reconciliation.
Activities
Search for Common Ground will purchase and maintain musical instruments and allow access to artists free of charge. Artists will collaborate on a peace and reconciliation musical tour around Burundi.

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
The creation of more ‘’safe spaces’’ for youth from different communities to meet and overcome stereotypes; the promotion of a peace and reconciliation message through arts and culture; development of creative talent and respect for local talent.
Project Message
"We underestimate the impact of artists engaged for peacebuilding. People may not listen to a politician’s speech, but they’ll sing a popular song over and over. Artists create harmony through music."
