More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
Land is a precious commodity throughout the world. Marginalized rural families lack access to the kind of credit needed to buy their own land. Trapped in a cycle of basic survival, they pay exorbitant rents for poor quality land, or work for desperately low wages as migrant laborers. Agros restores hope and opportunity for such families in Nicaragua by purchasing farmland, providing agricultural training, and much more. Families pay back the cost of the land, proudly earning right to its title.
Activities
Agros offers families the opportunity to earn land over time through the fruits of their own labor. This year they plan to plant green peppers, plantains & watermelon, raise chickens, rabbits & goats, & hold workshops on gender issues & cooperation

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
The Agros model works to ensure economic, environmental, organizational, and social sustainability. Sustainability is not only key for the villagers, but for the long-term and integrated approach that addresses these issues.
Project Message
About a year ago, a friend of ours introduced us to Agros…From that moment forward our lives changed. Agros gave us hope to realize our dreams. Today we have land and a desire to overcome.

Latest Update from the Field
Futuro del Mañana Summer '09
By Shannon Gallagher - Annual Campaign Manager, October 20, 2009 09:56 PM
Thank you so much for your continued support of Agros villages like Futuro del Mañana! The village and community at large continue to make great strides to land ownership this quarter.
A quote from one of the villagers demonstrates her family’s commitment to paying back their land loans: “It has taken a lot of sacrifice for us to pay our loans,” says Sayda, “but even though it is hard, we are right on schedule. In my household we may not always buy new dresses or shoes or decorations, but we are always paying our loans on time. We really want to be the next family to fully pay off and get our land title and we are really close to being done!”
Attached you will find the Summer update for the Agros village of Futuro del Manana. Every quarter, the Agros US office receives a progress report on each village on topics such as: Community Organization, Land Ownership, Housing and Infrastructure, Community Education and Training, and Sustainable Economic Growth.
Enjoy!
