The hand of hope is a mnemonic used by the peer-educators as the lesson plan to teach community members about TB. Each finger represents a different concept to stop the spread of TB. The thumb "Espoir" symbolizes the hope that TB can be cured. The index finger "Identité" that one should be tested for TB. The index finger "transmission" symbolizes how to reduce the spread of TB. The ring finger "famille" represents the important role of family, and the fifth finger the importance of community.
