Mission
The GAIA Vaccine Foundation is a Rhode Island-based non-profit organization working in Bamako, Mali and in Providence, Rhode Island since 2002. Our mission is to promote HIV prevention, while we work on the development of a globally relevant, globally accessible HIV vaccine that can be distributed on a not-for-profit basis in the developing world. The foundation activities are focused on HIV education, prevention, access to care and vaccines.
Programs
Mother to Child HIV Transmission Prevention: We tested 2700 women and identified more than 80 women who needed HIV treatment to prevent transmission to their babies. The Here Bolo HIV Peer education program uses a physical mnemonic based on the five fingers of the hand to teach illiterate people about HIV. TB Bolo provides comprehensive TB education, screening and management for the neighborhood of Sikoro. Friday Activities: HIV+ women share an afternoon meal with our HIV doctors.
