Project Needs and Beneficiaries
The project addresses the multiple problems of inadequate sanitation, disease causing groundwater pollution (by normal latrines), deforestation for cooking purposes and hunger/food insecurity in schools in rural Manga District of Nyanza Province in Kenya. At the end, the school will have hygienic dry based sanitation facilities; improved food security by improving soil fertility and alternative cooking energy sources (biogas) thus reducing deforestation. “We will kill three birds with one stone
Activities
The dry based sanitation facilities, clean water, food and improved environment will improve performance and reduce absenteeism. Doreen, a class 6 girl says, “With washroom privacy and clean water available, we will be able to concentrate fully”.

Potential Long Term Impact
Over 350 pupils will be able to spend more time in school as: they will eat in school; less time will be spent bringing and collecting water for their daily use and attending hospital due to diarrhea and other water borne diseases.
