More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

The last decade has seen deteriorating relations between the West and the Middle East. For youth in both regions, their views of other cultures and religions are often distorted by stereotypes, lack of information, and misleading media. Walking the Abraham Path in Palestine will allow 10 youth to develop a commitment to cross-cultural understanding based not on theory, but on the transformational work of building friendships across lines of cultural and religious differences.

Activities

Students will walk 70 km through Palestine, staying in villages along the way and learning about culture, history, and environmental issues. During their trip, they will document their experience through projects such as a film or series of photos.

Total Funding Received to Date: $5,315

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

Many youth who walk the path return home inspired to create change in their own communities, organizing cross-cultural events, art exhibitions and leading their own Abraham walks. These young leaders demonstrate the power of walking with the 'other'.

Project Message

Making friends in another part of the world is amazing...you have very different backgrounds, yet the similarities and things you share in common are no different from your friends back home.
- Steve McArdle, Student, Walked the Abraham Path in 2008

Latest Update from the Field

Thank you for your donations!

By Cate Malek - Development Coordinator, October 14, 2009 12:09 PM

We at the Abraham Path Initiative would like to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped us to complete the Global Giving challenge. We're very excited to be part of the Global Giving website, and plan to post more projects in the coming weeks.
We were blown away by the generosity of all of our donors. One supporter even offered to put this project on his wedding registry. Thanks to all of our donors for your incredible support.
We are in the planning phase of our youth walk, and we will update you as we get closer to implementing the project. The funding we have received so far will provide a solid foundation for the project, helping to offset the costs for international participants, and revitalize communities along the Abraham Path. We appreciate any donor feedback on our campaign or on the project itself.
