Project Needs and Beneficiaries
Women's illiteracy is a wide-spread problem in Turkey with 1 out of 5 women being unable to read or write. Rural migrant women who were not sent to school as girls, come into towns only to experience isolation and difficulties in accessing urban life. Our program empowers women by giving them tools of functional literacy and numeracy, and supports them through a multi-dimensional reading program that includes information on their rights as citizens as well as sexual reproductive health.
Activities
We train volunteers who will teach women basic literacy skills and provide books and instructional materials for these courses. In order to ensure quality we support and supervise our volunteers throughout a 13 week course period.

Potential Long Term Impact
The project will provide functional literacy and basic rights training to 1500 women in Turkey so that they will fbe able to engage in social and economic life and lead more empowered lives.
