More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Vietnam’s infrastructure is seriously underdeveloped after decades of war. With 50% of the population under the age of 20, Vietnam’s educational system is particularly burdened. It's not uncommon for children to walk several hours just to go to school. Room to Read understands that a child's education begins with an adequate learning environment. One of our primary charters is to improve this environment by aiding with the construction of new schools and the repair of old ones.

Activities

The goal of the project is to provide educational facilities for children in disadvantaged communities. Rather than simply building or paying for a new school, Room to Read materially involves the local community where the school is to be built.

Resources

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

The communities are asked to provide some of the funding, land, material sand/or labor required to build the school. This model of community ownership produces a deep sense of commitment, and ultimately more lasting impact on education in rural areas

Project Message

Rather than walking miles every day to go to school, the children can now invest their time into studying.
- Mr. Nguyen Hoai Nam, Program Director, Vietnam
