By Zenia Tata - Executive Director, August 15, 2007 05:19 PM
In Zambia, IDE has reached nearly 27,000 beneficiaries with irrigation and market interventions, institutional capacity development programs, and impact assessment studies.
In Zimbabwe, even in a climate of four digit inflation and severe economic decline IDE's projects continued to improve livelihoods of vulnerable populations. Thus far, IDE has supplied 13,120 drip systems, impacting 12,000 rural families and 30,000 urban and peri-urban families in Zimbabwe.
In Nepal, IDE worked with 70,159 farmers, focusing mainly on small plot irrigation for high value vegetable production.
Myanmar's Smallholder Irrigation Initiative raises incomes and improves food security by researching and designing affordable small-plot irrigation technologies and engaging the private sector to produce and disseminate them across the country. The program has trained 132 people to work as village level pump demonstrators. These demonstrations were attended by 62,000 villagers in 97 townships.
