Mission
Barka started its activities 13 years ago and now administers 20 centers giving a home for about 700 persons and helping the needy via diverse forms of activities expressed in 4 basic programs: communities’ creation, socio-educ. program, creation of work places & social cooperatives, and social housing. It animates socio-economic programs in Poland, Central & Eastern Europe. As the first NGO in Poland, Barka is the co-creator of new laws (representing Polish NGOs) & a successful lobbying org.
Programs
The 2nd program mentioned inspired the Ministry of Economy, Labour and Soc. Policy to create a new law on social employment. Two new laws regarding changes in the nat’l social policy are being prepared: the law on social coops. and the law on social housing. Barka’s reps. are participants in elaborating the laws and working on the Task Team for elaborating the Nat’l Strategy for Social Reintegration - an enormous success for Barka’s programs, which were/are used to elaborate Polish legislation.
